The function of displacement sensors is to convert linear mechanical displacement into electrical signals. To achieve this effect, the variable resistor slider is usually placed at the fixed position of the potentiometer, and different resistance values are measured by the displacement of the slider on the slider. The potentiometer slider is connected to a steady-state DC voltage, allowing for small currents of over microamperes, and the voltage between the slider and the starting end. Using a potentiometer as a voltage divider can minimize the need for accuracy in measuring the total resistance of the slide rail. Resistance changes caused by temperature fluctuations will not affect the measurement results
